The Classy Closet

that have 2 friends... this is driving me bonkers. it is like a lame free entry. should i just do away with offering twitter entries?
It seems most of the people that twitter for entries are "professional contesters" for a lack of a better description, and although I don't mind them winning they aren't doing me a bit of good by twittering, if it is not reaching anyone else.

Just like if I offer them an entry for blogging, no one else will see it.

what are you thoughts?

Twitter and contests you could argue don't mix. Hard to say... And the whole professional contesters I especially don't get.. You could eliminate it sort of by creating a rule where tweeting is only an 'additional' entry.. or only one part of the main entry?

I don't know. I'd like to hear more on this exact topic...

yes i always make it an "extra" entry but when people do it and they have 2-3 friends aka followers on twitter and the only things they have every twittered are contests, i don't really want to give them that extra entry. I wonder how offended they would be if I set a rule.

'You must have 50 friends and you must make 5 tweets a day unrelated to contests. haha! wouldnt' that be hilarious. i would be the nazi of blog contests'.

I might just do without them. I dunno. it has just been buggin me today, maybe.

I say keep it! As your blog grows you will gain great followers and great people tweeting your giveaways! I think my new program would be great for you!

I agree with Jen. I'm not at the point of giveaways, but I have been starting to visit lots of blogs to scope it out. I really like the ones that list 5 things you need to do for entries, such as; Tweet it AND comment that you did it, Subscribe to my site AND comment that you did it.

yea, I guess I am too new to get rid of it, i do have quite a few ways to enter so I am glad I have others to fall back on!

girl what are you talking about you are too new to have contests? no one is too new for contests! make you own then go after PR! I had someone tell me 1 out of 10 pr people get back with you. umm, yeah right! I contacted 25 on superbowl sunday and I 10 more then next day, and I have 26 contests coming up or up now.

I am good but not that good! go get em mama!

I think posting the contest link on twitter can get you followers...and I think in some ways if you limit it to having so many followers isnt quite fair to all the newbies out there. Also I think it is difficult for some people to get 50 followers. I have more followers on twitter than I do on my blog, but I dont use twitter all that much. I think a contest is a contest and if the person is trying to do the work of getting the entries they should all count....otherwise if you limit it, it is like a popularity contest...and not everyone out there in the bloggy world is trying to get all kinds of strangers to their blog.

I think if you are trying to get people to really see the company that is doing the giveaway then do the entries pretty much as focusing on that companies website....make the entries about things you didnt mention, things they like about the company, other items they would like, etc...drive the traffic to the company website so people really see what they offer.

I vote for keeping it. A log of my hits come from twitter, and I don't like closing doors!! You never know just who is going to read that tweet!!

I also vote to keep it. I am what you are calling a "professional contester" of sorts. I started looking for giveaways a few months back, and had fun entering these giveaways. I found a bunch of really great blogs, fun articles and super giveaways. This led me to start my own blog, where I collect a bunch of giveaways with links and put them on my blog, for friends and family. I just started on Twitter and I have 48 followers, just over the last week or so. I don't have near that many on my blog.

I am not sure where exactly the problem is if Twitter is bringing new people to your blog, they will have to look at the PR product and the site from which it comes (which can bring them new business), and they will then share it with people on their Twitter account.

I hope I don't sound defensive, because that it not at all how I was trying to come across. I just wanted to point out the positive in having Twitter. I would definitely recommend that anyone entering your giveaways/reviews would have to first go to the link that the PR gives you and look around, then come back and tell you which item(s) they liked on that site. If they do this first and you tell them that this has to be done or none of the other entries will count, the people who just enter and could care less about looking around your blog, will probably not enter and you will keep the people you are really looking to keep as followers.

I hope that this helps and that you don't give up on those who enjoy giveaways, but also love to read your blog, as well.

Good luck!

I say keep it too! Hey, we all started somewhere and just because they have 2 followers now, doesn't mean they are going to stay at 2 followers.

I think networking, is networking, sometimes tedious and slow, but it does get the word out about your blog, through that contest.

I'm new to the blogging world, I write because I like to write. I haven't started into the review/giveaway process yet. It's a big tougher since I am a mom to teenagers and twenty somethings now. I haven't yet found my niche, but I am willing to try, and soon!

Just my opinion.

I've given away cupcakes and Starbucks gift cards.... but it's only been because I love my followers and simply wanted to give something back to them! :)

Contests should be based on your blog... but can be advertised on other sites like Twitter and Facebook, etc.
